While it’s easy for tourists to imagine Egypt as a land of high adventure and mystery — as portrayed in film and entertainment — for native Egyptians the country is simply their home.
As Egyptian Sara Ahmed explained on Quora, “I don’t know what it is, but for some reason a lot of tourists always walk around like they’re about to go on some super dangerous, ultra important journey through a jungle. They wear big hiking boots, thermal backpacks, etc. They also wear very camouflagey (sic) stuff. Obviously not all of them, but a lot of them.”
